Who We Are

New Life Community Church is a Southern Baptist Church that started in Northfield in 2008. Our purpose is to see all people grow in their faith in God. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, we are here to help you connect with God’s perfect purpose and plan for your life. As part of our community, we will put our New Life of faith in Christ into practice by meeting the needs of our neighbors, strengthening families, developing character in our children and youth, and modeling community service.

Our History

In 2001 (and possibly before then), various local and partner churches began praying about starting a new church in the town of Northfield. These groups sent prayer-walking teams to bathe the town in prayer and set aside “seed” money for the church they believed God would establish in this town.  In September of 2006, the Cates family was called by God to assist the Green Mountain Baptist Association in starting new churches. After six months of praying, the Cates family heard God calling them to plant a church in the town of Northfield.  They then began meeting with local Christians who felt that God had led them to be a part of a new Southern Baptist church in the town.  In September of 2007, a Bible study and prayer meeting was started in the home of Morris and Gloria Howard at the Green Mountain Apartments in Northfield. In January of 2008, the group adopted the name New Life Community Church, and in June of 2008 regular Sunday evening services were begun at the Cates’ rental home on Elm Street in Northfield.  Sunday morning service was moved to the community room of the Brown Public Library on January 4, 2009, and on January 18, 2009, New Life Community Church was officially chartered and our constitution and by laws were adopted.  In October 2009, the “Little White Church” building was donated by Good News Baptist church and on Sunday, November 29, 2009, the church celebrated our first service in the new building.  By the beginning of 2012 New Life attendance had outgrown the capacity of the “Little White Church”.  On June 17, 2012 we held our first service at our current location on 29 East Street, Northfield, VT.

In 2015 the Cates family was called to move on to new ministries.  In August of 2015 God called Tom Alsheimer to become our next (and current) Pastor.
